When the thought of summer comes to mind, it brings two feelings: An over whelming sence of stoke for the warm waters, fun waves, beautiful girls in bikinis, and most of all surfing till 9:00pm! ...at least 8:45 anyway.

That feeling tends to take the majority of my perception. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, the brutal truth of summer is that there are just too many people and not enough consideration or respect, in the water and on the streets. When i find myself sitting in the line up with 7,238,489 of my best friends who all happen to live somewhere else than here, its VERY easy to say; "id so rather be surfing in my 4/3 with hood and booties in crappy storm surf than struggle another minute with all these clowns! AARRRRR!" Even with 69 degree water and blue skies, its still a circus!

Why am I ranting about this?...I dont know. But i do know that when i reflect upon this contrast of seasons combined with flooding of tourists, weekend warriors and summertime sally's, it really makes me feel so stoked and blessed to have those other 300 days of the year with crappy blown out, rainy, dirty, stormy days when NO ONE is out! HA! I LOVE IT! It makes the frustrations of summer that much more tolerable... and it helps to have a big board.

Here we have a Beautiful "Sanga" replica. Complete with authentic "80's" Quicksilver lam, "Piping Hot" lam and prehistoric "Nirvana surf-rat wallride" lam to really bring the ultimate retro feel back. The custom airbrush goes without saying as well.

This board was made in 2008, the original was made in the early 80's for Mark Sainsbury. Those of you who have seen the "mad wax" surf flick back in the day will surely recognise this unmistakable board. It was soon after dubbed "first floater". Why...I dont know.

Classic 80's board, flat rocker, full foam deck, narrow rails, mild channels and a slight turn down nose or "beak".

So whats different about this board you ask?... first off, we started off with a stringerless P/U foam blank, laminated it with Epoxy using HYDROFLEX 3D Laminating technology, and then Hot coated with polyester resin...The results speak for themselves.

What you end up with is a strong, light and durable board, topped off with a responsive flex pattern that is quite amazing to ride! Slingshot bottom turns and intuitive power hacks that only an F1 driver could admire! My definition for this is equation is a combination of co-axial flex, (allowing the board to not be limited by a stringer running up the center) and strength to weight ratio, which allow you to focus and almost aim the energy being transferred through the tension of the board when pushed through a turn. All this combined is how the radial tuned flex gives the surfer a level of confidence, almost a stronger sence of feedback from the board...

As a bonus, because of the hybrid construction, the boards are repairable with epoxy OR polyester resins!... they're strong but they aren't invincible. Dings will happen, just not as often...

The one shown here in the pics is my own personal custom plane given to me just a few days ago. I tryied it within an hgour of recieving it, and i gotta say, its a totally different experience! you can actually put both hands on it for more body lift! it does sweet cutbacks and it barrel rides with such composure! Awsome! Nice work boys!

The Gallery will be open the early afternoon of Friday 26th thru to Sunday the28th of March while Saturday night, the 28th, between 6pm-9pm, will be refreshments and live music from fellow aquatic/artistic friend Erich Blase & Mr. Mike (a ukulele/bass/guitar duo) as we will have a perfect view of the sun going down over the spectacular Cardiff Reef and the San Elijo State Beach Park.

There will be new work to highlight the event along with onsite specials.
A percentage of all sales will go to help 'Friends of Cardiff & Carlsbad State Beaches' a group that was formed to protect and preserve the local coastal parks and beaches that have been left to deteriorate and become run down due to loss of finances. The San Elijo State Beach Park is one of the first concerns as it has been heavily deteriorated via the last high tide and storms to the point of causing danger to the summer crowd that are about to descend on our coast.

Cardiff local, and loyal NIRVANA fan Chris kneib, holds his new custom 5'8" "RoiFish" Quad that he just picked up this morning. How stoked does he look!?

He was blown away by how fast we were able to get him a board. He came in on feb. 22, the order got placed on the 23rd. and it was finished on tues. march 7! Thats a little over two weeks!

How long do you wait for your customs???

This was actually chris's second board. He purchased a 5'10 single wing swallow tri-fin about a week or so before this one! He's definatly hooked! And he got hooked up too! We take care of our local's! I wont tell you how much, but come down and take a look our selection, and talk to Erik and tell him you saw this blog for additional HOOKUP factor! and a free copy of "THE ARENA"

HERE WE HAVE A FEW NEW MEMBERS TO THE NIRVANA FAMILY QUIVER!

Heres a nice hyperformance thumbtail. Standard build, designed for good juicy waves.
Available in sizes: 5'6" up to 8'6"

This board has alot of potential for so cal! low rocker, a little wider,
more foam, and a hair shorter than your standard issue. For those who want to shred small waves, but dont want to ride a fish. This one is a 5'10"-but it would be a great shape all the way up to about 6'10"

Here we have a sweet mini-tanker. Dont mind the color on this one. Its a great cruzer board, for begginers or summertime. This is a very forgiving shape, very easy to ride and catches lots of waves! This one is 7'0"- but its available from 6'2" up to 9'2"

Ah yes, now we come to the "BIG DUDE" Double bump beaknosed fish! for guys over the 200lb. mark who want to ride a fish without the struggle. This is a performance outline fish with extra foam and larger dimension characteristics. sizes range from 6'2" - 7'6"

Another board designed for the Bigger guys quiver, this is more of an inflated shortboard with a hint of flyer-ish style. great for a step up or everyday, this board will handle almost anything!!!

This one is a 6'6"- sizes range from 6'2" - 7'4"

And last but not least, we have a speed egg/crowd pleaser. This board is 8'1", but this template works well in almost any size! 7'2" - 9'8" It does it all! a very well rounded board for all types of surfers!

The board you see here is a prototype LOST machine cut board. this was given to me about six months ago and i have got to say that it is one of the most impressive technology's in the industry! they are strong as HELL! i don't have even a pressure ding in mine and Ive abused it pretty well! and the coolest part about them is that they are adjustable! they have a pressure valve that controls the flex and rigidity, so you can tune it to the conditions as well as your particular style.

when your at todos, it matters! but in a pinch, the 6'9" that i chose worked extremely well! it all came down to the paddle. once you actually are dropping in, everything comes together. as a matter of fact it came together very well for me that day!! this NIRVANA SURFBOARD worked like a charm! it would of been nice to switch the numbers around though...maybe a 9'6" instead of 6'9", would of been the proper size for those conditions. oh well, just means we're gonna have to cut a 9'6" NIRVANA GUN for next time!

So Tuesday afternoon, as im walking through home depot picking out some materials for the shop, i get a call from Larry. he says its firing down south and that he had reserved a boat for us for tomorrow!... "what?...yer' kidding right? where?" he then proceeds to tell me that its gonna hit Todos Santos on weds, and its gonna be HUGE!!!..."Holy S%#T!!! its on!!!!"

So this is the documentation of our trip. we brought along our videographer Justin , so we could get some video footage for the next arena movie. I had my camera with me as well so i took these shots from the boat when i was done surfing. there were a lot of big names out there and some serious waves. Greg long, mike parsons, alex gray and a couple other big wave heroes. i was so amped to be out there shoulder to shoulder with these guys and the shear energy in the water was unfathomable! I was on an insane 6'9" NIRVANA gun which was too small to paddle into the bigger sets, but it was awsome once I got down the face. most of the guys were on 9'6" to 11'0" ft. boards. I got my fair share of waves, but it was a little more challenging being on a shorter stick. but once I got the hang of where to sit, and where to position my feet, it was insane! I was in heaven! BY FAR THE BIGGEST WAVES OF MY LIFE! I will post more as it arrives! so sit back and enjoy the ride!
